Rockets shoot past Resorters

CEDAR GROVE – The Cedar Grove-Belgium Rockets held a 23-8 advantage in shots on goal to key a 4-2 girls soccer win over the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters here Tuesday night.

The Rockets raised their Central Lakeshore Conference record to 4-0 (4-1 overall). The Resorters dropped to 0-3 in the CLC (0-3 overall).

Freshman forward Camrie Schmitz scored both of Elkhart’s goals, including one on a penalty kick, with midfielder Jessica Raether assisting on the other.

Resorter junior goalkeeper Meghan Clemens made 15 saves, including six outstanding ones.

“The shots on goal was nearly 3-1, however most of Cedar Grove’s shots came from outside the 18 as the defense backfield and holding midfielders did not allow them into the center of the field,” said Resorter head coach Kevin Ruh.

“Camrie was able to break past their defense a few times and as a team we are getting a feel for how we should be working together. Our first goal was a great pass from Jessica Raether between two defenders, allowing Camrie to run to it at drop it in.”
