Resorters cruise to first victory of the season

ELKHART LAKE – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters earned their first girls soccer win of the season as they rolled past visiting Random Lake, 5-0, Thursday afternoon.

Elkhart upped its Central Lakeshore Conference and overall records to 1-3. Senior midfielder Kelly Theel spearheaded the Resorters’ attack with two goals. Camrie Schmitz, Ashley Pfeifer and Monica Ruh kicked one goal each.

Ruh had a team-high three assists and Schmitz contributed one. Elkhart held an impressive 17-3 edge in shots on goal.

Meghan Clemens and Taylor Porter split the goalie duties for Elkhart. Clemens played the first half and made one save. Porter was in the goal in the second half and had three.

“We controlled the middle and were able to pass with purpose. Our two seniors, Kelly Theel and Ashley Pfeifer [forward], really stepped it up in the game – working the weak side and finishing the crosses,” said Resorter head coach Kevin Ruh.

“Monica Ruh And Camrie Schmitz both had great games – working the give-and-go and setting each other up for the cross. We held the midfield, and the defense shut down any attempt by Random to advance the ball.

“We were able to get our freshman in and they played very well also. The freshmen had a junior varsity game the night before against Sheboygan Lutheran – winning, 3-1 – and we could see their confidence from that game really carried over to this game,” said the coach.
