Tigers share second in New Holstein Invite

HGHS finished the tourney with a 1-2 record. Kiel and New Holstein shared second with 1-2 marks. Reedsville won the title with a 3-0 mark.

The Tigers lost their opener in the tourney to Kiel, 12-7, and bounced back in game two with a 19-9 drubbing of New Holstein in 4½ innings (10-run rule). In their third contest, Howards was routed by Reedsville, 22-0.

Senior Amanda Bergman hit a three-run homer and Robyn Bitter cracked three hits to spark the Tigers’ attack against New Holstein. Bergman had a team-high four RBIs and contributed two hits. Sarah Gardner also had two hits as Howards Grove pounded out 16.

Paige Splittgerber earned complete-game win. The freshman hurler allowed seven earned runs on six hits with seven walks and two strikeouts.

“Paige did a great job. She threw well and threw strikes. It was her first varsity pitching performance,” said Tiger head coach Tom Heier.

Allison Bertram led the Huskies in RBIs with two.

KIEL, REEDSVILLE GAMES

Jesscia Groh and Dana Fritsch had three hits each to lead Kiel’s bats against the Tigers. Groh smacked two doubles.

Cora Gumm and Bergman whacked two hits apiece and Sarah Scheiber had two RBIs to key the Tigers’ offense.

Reedsville banged out 15 hits and drew 13 walks in their win over HGHS. Chris Sebo fired a three-hit shutout.

Robyn Bitter, Val Free and Bergman had one hit each for the Tigers.
