Panthers run win streak to seven

SLINGER – The Plymouth Panthers kicked their girls soccer winning streak up to seven with a 1-0 win over nonconference foe Slinger here Friday night.

Sophomore forward Olivia Jankowski scored the winning goal five minutes into the second half on an assist by senior forward Erin Falk. PHS, which chalked up its third straight shutout, improved to 7-3.

“I am pleased with how we played as a team tonight. Slinger is a physical team but we managed to possess the ball in tight spaces,” said PHS head coach Brad Feick.

“Erin Falk and Olivia Jankowski were able to combine for a few nice opportunities on top.

“On the scoring play, Falk made a nice move on her defender and was able to play a ball into space to Olivia. Olivia was able to play the ball into the corner of the goal,” said Feick.

“Defensively, we stayed strong and were able to win the ball and play it to our mids.”

PHS led 5-3 in shots on goal. Panther goalies Sophie Hau and Elizabeth Bolland split time, with Hau making two saves and Bolland, one. Owl goalies Ashley O’Rourke and Kaylee Starr had two saves each.

“We wanted to pressure the ball and prevent Slinger from playing the way that they wanted. Brooke Reichert [senior midfielder] played an outstanding game – pressuring their midfielders and switching the field when we were possessing,” Feick noted.

“When Brooke plays well, the other players seem to feed off of her play.
