370 fifth-grade students from Kohler, Oostburg, Sheboygan Falls and Manitowoc got first-hand experience of Civil War soldiering Monday at the Kohler Elementary School. For 22 years, Civil War reenactor Duane Dumez and members of the Cushing’s Battery artillery re-enactors have led the exercise, teaching students to drill, march and fight as it was done in the Civil War. This year, the students re-created the battle of the Wilderness from May, 1865 - complete with battle flags and blue and gray t-shirts.
