PHS, the defending EWC champion, upped its league record to 3-0 (4-0 overall).

A sweep in doubles play by PHS was the difference after the teams split the four singles matches. The Panthers won all three doubles matches in straight sets – losing only five games combined.

“It’s a nice win for the Panthers over a good EWC opponent. Another great day for our doubles teams as we sweep Roncalli in pretty convincing fashion,” said Panther head coach Clare Sedlacek.

“A great match for our No. 3 doubles team of Thomas Theisen and Ryan Gallagher. The No. 2 doubles team of Gabe and Gavin Binversie continue to play great doubles and have lost only one game in their three conference matches.

Gallagher and Thomas Theisen won 6-0, 6-0. — Review photo by Greg Ceilley “Our No. 1 doubles [Ben Bachmann and Steven Blend] looked extremely strong in the first set but the boys from Roncalli came back tough in the second. Steven and Ben ran out the last four games to take the win in straight sets,” said Sedlacek.

“Our No. 3 singles, Gabe Guiriec, looked good in his return to action with a decisive victory. Number 4 singles, Ryan Blend, had another nice effort to take his EWC conference record to 3-0.

“Number 1 singles, Matt Primozic, played very well in a hardfought battle against 2013 state qualifier Brett Giesen but lost in straight sets. Cooper Ebbott, our No. 2 singles, ran into the best No. 2 EWC player [Zach LaVene] and played well in a losing effort,” said the coach.

Monday afternoon, the host Panthers rolled past Kewaskum, 6-1, in an EWC dual meet.
