The Panthers routed the Purple Raiders in the opener, 12-2, behind a 13-hit attack and senior Rachel Romps’ three-hitter. PHS won the nightcap, 6-0, as Romps threw her fourth shutout of the season and 20th in her career.

PHS improved to 7-4 in the EWC (10-4 overall). Two Rivers fell to 2-11 in the league (3-12 overall).

“Rachel was ahead of hitters all day and overpowered most of their lineup,” said PHS head coach Gale Grahn.

Rachel Romps walked none and struck out nine while allowing one earned run.

“Freshman Vanessa Arbuckle had a big day hitting and Cassie Sippel [sophomore shortstop] played well defensively,” said Grahn.

“We started out a little sluggish but then played flawless after the first two innings of game one,” said Grahn.

Arbuckle, called up from the junior varsity recently, had a team-high four RBIs. Her tworun single keyed a four-run third inning and she added a two-run double which sparked a three-run fourth.

Brianna Sippel and Jordyn Pieper fueled the PHS attack with three hits each. Arbuckle and Paige Stoney added two each.

Pieper also had three RBIs and two runs. Sara Romps contributed two RBIs. Sippel scored a teamhigh three runs.

Losing hurler Brooke Shillcox went the distance and walked seven to go with three whiffs.

GAME TWO

Rachel Romps fired a four-hitter in the nightcap as she improved to 10-4 this season. The southpaw walked none and chalked up nine strikeouts.

The Panthers tallied three runs in the third to build a 4-0 lead. Arbuckle belted a leadoff double and scored on Mikaela Holdridge’s base hit. Erika Stauss contributed a run-scoring single. Sippel’s sacrifice fly capped off the outburst.

Holdridge and Sara Romps paced PHS in hits with a pair each. Arbuckle led in runs with three, followed by Holdridge’s two.

Bailee Walesh had two hits to lead the Purple Raiders. Walesh hit a solo homer in the opener.

Shillcox took the loss and walked nine with zero strikeouts in going the route.
