PHS consolation champ at West Bend

WEST BEND – The Plymouth Panthers earned the consolation championship in the West Bend Classic girls soccer tournament May 17 with a shoot-out victory over Oshkosh North.

The match was tied 0-0 after regulation which forced a shoot-out decided on penalty kicks. PHS outscored North, 4-3, in penalty kicks. Making the kicks for the Panthers were Elle Klecka, Kaylee Koenig, Meghan Roelse and Erin Falk.

PHS led 4-0 in shots on goal. Panther goalkeeper Sophie Hau made a big save in the shoot-out.

“Overall, the tournament went alright. We were able to get two games in against two nonconference opponents,” said Panther head coach Brad Feick,

“The field conditions were incredible challenging to play on and we found possessing the ball against Mukwonago, a difficult team on any surface, to be very difficult.

“Against Oshkosh North, we played much better. We held possession and won most of the 50-50 balls but we couldn’t finish the game with a goal,” said Feick.

PHS lost to Mukwonago in the first round, 1-0, on a goal by Adria Schueler in the 15th minute. Hau made three saves. Both teams had four shots on goal.

The loss dropped Plymouth into the the consolation bracket. The Panthers then won by forfeit over Random Lake which advanced them to the consolation title game.
