HG falls out of lead with loss to Oostburg

HOWARDS GROVE – Oostburg handed the Howards Grove Tigers their second straight Central Lakeshore Conference defeat and knocked them out of first place in the CLC girls soccer race with a 3-1 win here Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers slipped to 8-2 in the CLC (12-3-1 overall) and are tied for second with Cedar Grove-Belgium. Ozaukee leads the league at 9-2. Oostburg, 11-5-1 overall, holds down fourth with a 7-3-1 mark.

“We struggled possessing the ball in the first half and our lack of communication cost us some goals. We had many opportunities but just could finish,” said Tiger head coach Todd Fischer.

The Tigers led 13-3 in shots in goal. Oostburg goalie Leah Ebbers made 12 saves.

The Lady Dutch mounted a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Keri Hartmann and Krystle Van Deursen. Oostburg made it 3-0 in the 46th minute on a goal by Karena Ten Dolle.

HGHS avoided a shutout when freshman forward Brittany Schaller scored with only 26 seconds left, assisted by freshman defender Ashley Reinemann.
