Panthers advance 11 events to sectional

PHS placed third in the relay. — Submitted photos BEAVER DAM – Plymouth’s boys and girls track teams combined to qualify 11 events for sectional competition at Tuesday’s Beaver Dam regional meet.

The sectional will be held at Friday at UW-Oshkosh’s Titan Stadium, with field events starting at 4:15 p.m. and running events at 5 p.m. The top-four finishers in each regional event qualified for the sectional level.

PHS placed fifth in the girls field with 80 points. The Panthers were led by Sophie Bolich who won the 3,200-meter run in 11 minutes, 38.88 seconds.

The Panthers took fifth in the boys meet with 63 points. The squad was paced by the 800 relay which earned first in 1:32.23. The relay included Dominic Bocchini, Samuel Staehling, Jake Schneider and Andrew Staehling. ___ _

West Bend West won the girls meet with 163 points. Fond du Lac was the boys champion with 165.

“Both teams did well in a very tough regional,” said PHS head coach Jay Grosshuesch.

“All our qualify [relay] teams and individuals have to improve in the meet on Friday to make it to state.

“We all know they are capable of better times, and that is what we intend to do on Friday and qualify a bunch to the state meet,” said Grosshuesch.
