Schubert sparks Elkhart in regional

HILBERT – Freshman Sonia Schubert qualified for sectional competition in three individual events to lead the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters in the Division 3 regional track meet here Tuesday.

Schubert qualified in the 100-meter dash, the long jump and the triple jump, led by a winning performance in the long jump. She was also a member of the 400 relay which advance to the sectional.

The first four place-winners in each regional event move on to the sectional at Princeton Friday.

The Resorter boys were ___ _–_ _ paced by junior Logan Knepfel who qualified in the 200 dash and 110 high hurdles with third and second places, respectively.

“I really felt our kids brought their best. Schubert qualified in four events as a freshman. Logan and Emily [Holzmann] really set solid marks in the hurdle races,” said Resorter head coach Chris Petrie.

Holzmann advanced in the 100 highs and 300 low hurdles.

Algoma won the girls meet with 140 points and Hilbert earned the boys crown with 144. Elkhart finished seventh in the girls field at 48 and eighth in the boys with 41.
