American Legion Unit 261 meeting minutes

The meeting of the Auxiliary of the Haslee-Doebert- Schmidt American Legion Unit 261 was called to order by President Kathy Bardon at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the Greenbush Legion Hall.

A prayer was read by Chaplain Lorraine Gaffney. A moment of silence was observed for our deceased members.

Thirteen senior members answered roll call.

Secretary’s minutes were read and approved. Treasurer’s report was filed for audit.

Liz Quackenboss and Becky Dippel will audit the books.

The auxiliary received a “thank you” from the Greenbush Fire Department for our donation to the Thermo Imaging camera.

Badger Girl and Boy Orientation was held at Howards Grove High School on May 5.

A motion was made by Lorraine Gaffney and seconded by Olive Ardell to purchase raffle tickets from the Legion Riders.

A motion was made by Quackenboss and seconded by Delores Miller to donate five dinners to the Chicken Dinner at King VA.

A motion was made by Quackenboss and seconded by Kathy Kohlman to donate a gas card to Camp American Legion.

A motion was made by Joan VanderZande and seconded by Kohlman to donate two sets of books to “Literacy in Reading.”

Motion was made by Lorraine Gaffney and seconded by Tanya Koenigs to donate 10 percent to the Legion men for helping with the fundraiser.

Motion was made by Miller and seconded by Pat Gaffney to donate to the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety or “Burn Camps.”

The Flag Retirement Ceremony would be at the Greenbush Legion Hall on May 21.

Installation of Officers will be at the Plymouth Post on June 18.

We want to “thank” the members who helped clean the hall – Kohlman, Quackenboss, Kay Keyes and Bernie Strong. Wayne Keyes and Gene Kohlman also helped.

Also, thank you to all members who helped with the dinner by baking and serving. We need all the help we can get to keep our unit alive and strong.

Winners of the raffle were Tom Mauer, Sue Gossage, Wayne Kiley, John Renk, Kathy Hanson, Nicole Watson, Bernie Koenigs, Joann Garner and Ethan Hau. Thank you for participating in the raffle.

We will place flowers on our deceased members’ graves.

Keyes and Strong attended the 2nd District Spring Conference. They gave a report on the meeting.

Gaffney reported no positive response with the nominating process.

Quackenboss reported on the Sunshine Fund.

Memorial Day Ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 26, at the Greenbush Cemetery, presented by the Spring Valley 4-H Club. The Greenbush Legion will be the Honor Guard. Arianna Cloud will be the Poppy Princess. The main speaker will be the Rev. Henry Verfuerth, pastor of the New Hope United Methodist Church of Greenbush.

A delicious lunch was served by Gaffney.

Quackenboss won the door prize.

Members will continue to save pop-top tabs, aluminum cans, food for the Food Pantry, coupons from the Sunday paper, VA Organ Transplant Fund and the Sunshine Fund.

Motion was made by Ardell and seconded by Adele Hueppchen to adjourn. Motion carried.
