OSHKOSH – The Plymouth Panthers qualified two events for the Division 1 state track meet at Friday’s sectional at UW-Oshkosh’s Titan Stadium.

Advancing for the PHS girls team is sophomore Sophie Bolich in the 3,200-meter run with a runner-up finish in 11 minutes, 38.90 seconds. The Panther boys will be represented at state by the 1,600 relay team of seniors Tom Jankowski, Luke Hojnacki and Andrew Staehling and junior Dominic Bocchini which placed third with a season-best 3:34.23.

The top-three finishers in the sectional automatically qualify for the state meet which will be held Friday and Saturday at UW-La Crosse’s Memorial Stadium.

Plymouth’s boys 800 relay set a school record of 1:30.29 en route to a fourth-place finish. The relay members were Bocchini, Andrew Staehling and sophomores Samuel Staehling and Jake Schneider. The old record was 1:31.54, set in 2011.

“Our kids competed well at sectionals. We knew the competition was going to be tough and we had to run some very strong races to get everyone to state,” said PHS head coach Jay Grosshuesch.

“The coaches are proud of how the athletes at- tacked their races. They ran real hard and put themselves into positions to qualify.

“It was neat to see these four guys [in the 1,600 relay] all run so well and earn their way to state. Sophie ran a real good 3,200 race. She led most of the race and finished strong,” said Grosshuesch.

West Bend West won the girls meet with 140 points and PHS took 11th with 23. Fond du Lac edged West, 83½-83, to win the boys title. PHS was 13th with 18.
