EL-G’s Holzmann, Schubert to state

PRINCETON – Sophomore Emily Holzmann and freshman Sonia Schubert of Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah earned state berths in the Division 3 girls state track meet at the sectional here Friday.

Holzmann will return to state in the 100-meter high hurdles after placing fourth in the sectional with a career-best 16.44 seconds. Holzmann finished eighth in last year’s state competition.

Schubert advances in the long jump after finishing second with a 16-7¾ performance.

The top-four finishers in the sectional automatically qualify for the state meet which will be held Friday and Saturday at UW-La Crosse’s Memorial Stadium.

The Elkhart boys were paced by junior Logan Knepfel who earned seventh in the 110 high hurdles in 16.04. Knepfel was the Resorters’ only place-winner (top eight) in the boys meet.

The Resorters’ other place-winners in the girls meet included Schubert who took sixth in the 100 dash in 13.17 and the 400 relay team of Holzmann, Monica Ruh, Lauren Boos and Schubert which captured eighth in 53.68.

“Sonia and Emily both had really great nights. Both are great competitors and fun to watch,” said Resorter head coach Chris Petrie.

“It will be an exciting state meet to watch them both take it to the next level and compete to bring home [state] medals.

“Every event and every competitor did what we asked of them. They competed and set personal records all night,” said Petrie.
