The Tigers raised their Central Lakeshore Conference baseball record to 2-0 (3-0 overall). The Resorters dropped to 1-1 in the CLC (1-2 overall). The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

HGHS sent a whopping 17 batters to the plate in the third as they obliterated a 5-0 deficit and went ahead 14-5. The Tigers combined six walks, three hits and a hit batter, and capitalized on three Resorter errors in the frame. The key hit was Brad Olson’s two-run double which capped off the inning.

The Tigers were outhit 5-4 but drew nine walks, had two hit batters and were aided by five Elkhart errors.

“The game was a bit sloppy in that third inning but we executed well, offensively,” said Tiger head coach Mark Weber.

“I was disappointed that we gave up early runs but pleased how well we played in that third inning.

“Bryce Hoffmann gets the win and did a great job relieving Terry Fritsch. Bryce located his pitches well and overpowered the Resorter hitters,” said Weber.

Hoffmann pitched the final three frames and gave up no runs on one hit with zero walks and two strikeouts.

Starter Bailey Klug took the loss – allowing nine runs (seven earned) on three hits with five walks, two strikeouts and a hit batter in two innings. Klug was relieved in the third by Stuart Zelle.

Austin Edge led HGHS in hits with two. Edge, Jake Fritz and Matt Bagnall scored a team-high two runs each.

Stephan Clemens paced Elkhart in hits with two and runs, two. Owen Kalbacken had a team-high two RBIs.

“We hit the ball well early on. That is one thing we plan on doing all year,” said Resorter head coach Davin Hill.

This lineup likes to swing the bat and we’ve shown we can score runs. We couldn’t seem to find an out in that third inning and ultimately we got into too deep of a hole to climb out of.”

The Resorters had three hits in the first inning – RBI singles by Clemens and Zelle, and an RBI triple by Jordan Bahr.
