Tigers inch closer to CLC crown

Schaller missed the shot. — Photo by Terry Schaller HOWARDS GROVE – The Howards Grove Tigers moved closer to earning the Central Lakeshore Conference girls soccer title with a 4-0 win over Random Lake here Thursday afternoon.

HGHS upped its first-place CLC record to 10-2-1 (14-3-2 overall). The Tigers can win the outright league championship with a victory Tuesday, June 3 at Sheboygan Lutheran in their regular-season finale.

Ozaukee is in second with a 10-3 record and one league match remaining. The Warriors must win and have HGHS lose in order to win the CLC crown outright.

The Tigers took a commanding 3-0 halftime lead with goals from Emily Schmid, Kaitlyn Near and Morgan Wittman, respectively. Near assisted on Schmid’s tally. Allison Schmid had the assist on Wittman’s goal.

Taylor Beninghaus kicked the final goal, assisted by Near.

The Tigers dominated the match as they held an incredible 31-0 advantage in shots on goal.

The Rams fell to 0-13 in the CLC (2-17 overall).
