Tigers sweep Rockets, go to 8-0 in CLC

The Tigers upped their first-place CLC record to 8-0 and improved to 9-1 overall. The Rockets, who shared the league crown with Sheboygan Lutheran/Kohler last year, dropped to 3-4 in the CLC (3-5 overall).

In the opener, the Tigers scored four runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead for good, 4-1. Two runs scored on a throwing error, one came home on a wild pitch and the other on an infield error. Bryce Hoffmann’s single was Howards’ only hit in the frame.

Both teams collected nine hits but the Rockets committed five erros to the Tigers’ none.

Zach Fritz earned a completegame victory. The junior right-hander walked two and struck out a pair.

Hoffmann sparked the Tigers’ bats with three hits. Alex Strege and Terry Fritsch added two each. Hoffmann led in RBIs with two.

Brian Mueller paced the Rockets in hits with two. Brett Michaels had a team-high two RBIs.

GAME TWO

In the nightcap, HGHS scored eight runs in the final four innings combined en route to the win.

Senior Austin Edge fired a threehitter to notch the win. Edge gave up one earned run and four walks while striking out eight.

Fritz and Strege led the Tigers’ attack with two hits apiece. Fritz and Edge had a team-high two RBIs each.
