Park concerts great way to spend a summer evening

SOMETIMES IT SEEMS THAT finding good free, family-fun entertainment close to home can be a real challenge.

That’s not the case, though, for Plymouth-area residents on Thursday nights during the summer.

It’s as close as Plymouth City Park on Grove Street on the city’s north side.

The annual City Park Summer Concert series is in full swing again this year, with an expanded schedule and a wide variety of musical stylings being offered.

The series kicked off June 12 and will continue through Aug. 21, with concerts every Thursday night except for July 3.

The always-entertaining Plymouth Municipal Band will provide the music for half of those dates, while the rest range from barbershop quartet singing to a tuba quartet to jazz and, of course, the ever-popular German Night July 24. That crowd-pleasing event includes includes three different German bands – Plymouth High School’s own Junge

Kameraden, the Municipal Band and Blaskapelle

Milwaukee – along with good German food and, of course, a beer garden.

All of the concerts are great family entertainment evening, a chance to hear good music while enjoying a little fresh air in a lovely park setting, all at no charge.

Concessions are also available for every concert except the finale on Aug. 21 and there’s the chance, before or after the concert, the enjoy the other fine facilities offered in City Park – the kid-friendly playground area, picnic tables and grills, the Outdoor Aquatic Center and more.

It’s a real touch of down-home Americana right in the middle of the city, quality entertainment at the most affordable price – free.

Regular attendees know just how enjoyable an experience the City Park concerts can be. Those who have never been should give it a try and discover what a great evening it can be.
