The Panthers upped their EWC-leading record to 9-0 (13-1 overall) and extended their winning streak to 11. The Huskies fell to 4-4 in league play (4-9 overall).

Olig, mixing a good fastball with off-speed pitches, notched a complete-game win. The junior right-hander allowed two earned runs on only four hits while striking out nine.

“Matt had good control and mixed his pitches well. Luke Held [senior catcher] called a good game. The defense was stellar,” said Panther head coach Butch Cain.

PHS trailed 2-0 after one-half inning but answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Panthers added three runs in the second and two more in the third to build an 8-2 lead. Luke Held’s two-run double ignited the firstinning spurt. Jake Richards added an RBI double in the frame.

Zac Cain ripped a two-run double to key the Panthers’ outburst in the second. Two Husky errors aided PHS.

In the third, PHS scored a run on infield error and Cain’s basesloaded walk.

“It was important to respond after they scored two in the top of the first. We got the momentum early. We hit the ball hard,” coach Cain said.

“Our baserunning was aggressive which put pressure on the defense.”

Cain, Richards and Jake Steinhardt led PHS in hits with two each. Cain had a team-high three RBIs and Held contributed two. Clay Henning, Tyler Willeford and Cain led in runs with two each.

Hunter Petrie and Mark Sippel had one RBI apiece for the Huskies. New Holstein had zero batters with multiple hits.

Starting hurler Michael Voelker took the loss. He allowed eight runs (four earned) on six hits with three walks, a hit batter and four whiffs in three frames.

The Huskies committed five errors to Plymouth’s none.
