Change the tide

To the Editor:

State Sen. Joe Leibham, who is now running for Congress, deserves recognition for serving the Sheboygan and Manitowoc areas with a strong conservative backbone while representing an area that isn’t historically very Republican.

Joe was the first Republican candidate since 1956 to represent Sheboygan in the 26th Assembly District. He was also the first Republican candidate in more than 30 years to represent the 9th Senate District.

And while serving a historically Democrat region, Joe has not caved on his morals and principles. Instead he has a proven conservative record of tax cutting, fiscally responsible budgeting and fighting for life, and he tries to persuade others that his goals for Wisconsin are also their goals.

Joe has built up a strong base of support over his years of service. Four years ago, Joe won his senate seat with 73 percent of the vote in a district that he first won twelve years ago in a recount by only 46 votes.

On the other hand, Glenn Grothman, one of Joe’s opponents, has consistently pushed people away from the conservative side, losing votes in every election since 2004.

I would rather have a congressman who can bring more people to agree with his—and my—conservative values than an ideologue who will alienate many of our friends and family here in Sheboygan County.

In the Aug. 12 primary, let’s vote to send Joe Leibham to Congress because he’ll work to change the tide of American politics by bringing more people to our side while sticking true to his conservative beliefs.
