ELFIE J. DEZWARTE

Elfie J. DeZwarte, 98, of Sheboygan Falls and formerly of Oostburg, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Pine Haven Christian Home.

Elfie was born Dec. 5, 1915, in the town of Holland, daughter of George and Nellie (Lammers) Bruggink. She was a 1933 graduate of Oostburg High School.

On Sept. 12, 1936, she married Howard DeZwarte in Waukegan, Ill. Howard preceded her in death March 13, 1996.

Elfie was employed with Musebeck Shoe Factory and Hingham Cheese Factory.

Elfie was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg, where she was a member of Young at Heart, the Missionary Society, and the Senior Center.

She enjoyed camping, crocheting, playing cards, singing, traveling, and farming.

Elfie is survived by her two daughters, Loretta Eisenhardt of Sheboygan Falls and Sandra (Ronald) Stolper of Adell; six grandchildren, Jodi (David) Ottensman, Jan (John) Shorer, James (Dawn) Eisenhardt, Deborah (James) Wilke, Michelle (David) Hughes and Rebecca (Scott) Goodwin; 12 great-grandchildren, Dayton, Lucas, Megan, Caleb, Robert, Hunter, Connor, Dawson, Blaire, Kina, Kiyu and Coda; and one sister-in-law, Wanda DeZwarte. Elfie is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Elfie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Howard; her son-in-law, Robert Eisenhardt; her infant son, three brothers, and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services to celebrate Elfie’s life were held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 30, at First Reformed Church in Oostburg with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial took place in Union Cemetery in the town of Holland.

Visitation was held at the church Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service at 6 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established in Elfie’s name.
