James R. “Jim” Meerstein Sr., age 72, of Sheboygan, formerly of Plymouth, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the Progressive Care Center where he had been a resident for the past several weeks.

He was born in Plymouth on May 20, 1942, son of the late Raymond and Leona (Stephan) Meerstein. He attended Plymouth schools and graduated from Plymouth High in 1960.

Jim loved baseball and fishing. He founded the Plymouth Flames, originally called the Plymouth Merchants in 1983 (along with the help of Ozzie Pick). His faith was very important to him. Jim loved watching the Brewers and Packers and local baseball teams, and being a member of the Plymouth Jaycees.

He is survived by two children, Patricia (Bradley) Muecke and James (Tricia) Meerstein Jr.; seven grandchildren: Nicole, Heather and Rachel Muecke and Shelia, Crystal, Noah and Anna Meerstein; three great-grandchildren: Thomas, Evee and Aidan; a sister, Janice (Joey) Kohlmann; a brother, Donald (Lynn) Meerstein; and stepmother, Agnes Meerstein. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Corey.

Private family services will be held at a later date at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Plymouth.
