SARA ROMPS SARA ROMPS Plymouth seniors Rachel and Sara Romps – twin sisters – were voted to the All-Eastern Wisconsin Conference softball first team at pitcher and catcher, respectively, for the second consecutive season by the EWC coaches.

Both Panthers were secondteam selections as sophomores.

The Panthers have three second team players in senior third baseman Mikaela Holdridge, senior outfielder Brianna Sippel and junior outfielder Erika Stauss. Holdridge was a first-team pick last year.

Rachel, a left-hander, ranked No. 2 in the EWC in ERA with an impressive 2.01, strikeouts with 105 and wins, 10. She walked only 11 batters in 94 innings and had two shutouts.

She also finished eighth in the league in RBIs with 12.

Panther head coach Gale Grahn pointed out that Rachel finished second all-time at PHS in the following pitching categories: innings with 440; wins, 51; strikeouts, 511; ERA, 1.51; and shutouts, 22.

RACHEL ROMPS RACHEL ROMPS Sara was outstanding on defense – committing zero errors and totaling 10 assists this past conference season. She hit .279 with 10 RBIs, three doubles and a triple.

“Sara caught virtually every inning for the last three years. She was an excellent defensive catcher – committing only four errors in her career,” Grahn said.

Stauss ranked 10th in the EWC in batting with an excellent .419 average. Her on-base percentage was an outstanding .500. Stauss contributed 10 RBIs and five doubles. She had no errors on defense in league action.

“Erika was really consistent all year – never going more than two games without a hit,” Grahn noted.

Holdridge batted .318 with seven RBIs and two doubles. She tied for third in the EWC in runs with 17.

“Mikaela was a four-year starter at third base. She led the team this year [overall season] with 17 RBIs and 27 hits,” the coach pointed out.

“She was strong, defensively, at third base too.”

Sippel hit .341 with 11 RBIs, three doubles, a triple and 13 runs in EWC games.

“Brianna led the team in RBIs with 17 [overall]. She also displayed excellent range in center field,” Grahn said.

Senior pitcher Tiffany Killam of Waupun was voted the EWC’s Player of the Year. Killam enjoyed an impressive season on the mound as she led the league in ERA with 2.00, strikeouts, 122 and victories with 13. She surrendered only 46 hits in 70 innings.

The other first-team repeaters are Killam, senior pitcher Brianna Gruenwald of Campbellsport; senior infielder Kelsey Thompson, Waupun; and senior outfielder Brenna Spencer of Kiel. It marked the third straight season that Thompson was named to the first team.

Killam, senior catcher Caitie Winning of Waupun and freshman utility player Bre Trepes of Kewaskum are the unanimous firstteam choices.

Waupun’s Tom Hagstrom was voted the league’s Coach of the Year for the third straight season after he directed the Warriors to their third consecutive EWC title. Hagstrom shared the honor with Grahn in 2012.

Trepes was the EWC batting champion with a scorching .575 average. Winning led the league in RBIs with 24. Ashley Emmer of Campbellsport and Thompson tied for first in runs at 21 each.
