Tigers stay unbeaten in CLC race

FREDONIA – Junior Bryce Hoffmann pitched six strong innings en route to a 6-1 victory for the Howards Grove Tigers over Ozaukee here Wednesday evening.

The Tigers hiked their first-place Central Lakeshore Conference baseball record to 12-0 (13-2 overall).

Hoffmann allowed only four hits, one earned run and three walks while striking out four. Zach Fritz earned a save with a scoreless seventh. Fritz gave up no hits and walks to go with one strikeout.

“Bryce Hoffmann was the difference in this game – getting key outs when he needed,” said Tiger head coach Mark Weber.

“Our defense made some great plays tonight and we extended our lead with key hits in the seventh. I was very proud of our execution tonight,” said Weber.

Terry Fritsch’s two-run single sparked the Tigers’ four-run spurt in the top of the seventh.

HGHS took a 2-0 lead in the third on Hoffmann’s RBI double and Dakota Rabe’s run-scoring single.

Fritz and Hoffmann led the Tigers in hits with two apiece. Fritsch had a team-high two RBIs. Noah Bramstedt, a courtesy runner, led in runs with a pair.

Mitch McConnell paced the Warriors in hits with two.

Jeremy Wichmann took the loss and went the distance. Wichmann surrendered five earned runs on eight hits with five walks, three hit batters and seven strikeouts.
