Rockets sweep Resorter in CLC twinbill

A run scored on the error. — Photo by Mike McGill ELKHART LAKE – The Cedar Grove-Belgium Rockets swept a Central Lakeshore Conference baseball doubleheader from the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters, 6-3 and 11-4, here Tuesday.

Elkhart fell to 2-11 in the CLC (2-13 overall). Cedar Grove improved to 6-3 in the league (6-4 overall).

In the opener, David Niebauer was the winning pitcher and also had a team-high three hits.

Stephan Clemens led the Resorters in hits with two. Clemens and Brennan Cain had one RBI each.

Bailey Klug took the loss in game one. Klug, the starter, allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with one walk and no strikeouts in four innings.

GAME TWO

Clemens eventually caught the ball. — Photo by Mike McGill The Rockets only outhit Elkhart 8-6 in the nightcap but Resorter pitching allowed seven walks. Four of Cedar Grove’s runs were unearned.

Tyler Falk earned the win and led the Rockets in hits with two along with Brett Michaels and Brian Mueller.

Gunnr Johnson paced Elkhart’s attack with two hits. Jed Hersey, Elliot Van Oss, Stuart Zelle and Johnson had one RBI each.

Zelle was the losing hurler. He started and surrendered 11 runs (seven earned) on five hits with four walks and one strikeout in 2-1/3 frames.
