New Holstein Huskies rally past Elkhart Lake

NEW HOLSTEIN – New Holstein rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take a 5-3 victory from Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah in a nonconference baseball game here July 7.

Devon Johnson opened the Husky fourth by being hit by a pitch and later scored on a Resorter throwing error to bring the Huskies to within 3-2.

Jacob Daun started New Holstein’s three-run, sixth-inning rally with a single. A Nolan Beirne single, followed by a Michael Voelker run-scoring grounder, tied the game, 3-3, and another Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah error allowed two more runs to cross the plate.

Dominic Probst came on for New Holstein in the seventh and retired the Resorters in order to earn a save and make a winner out of Josh Burg who pitched in relief of starter Mark Sippel.

Josh Farrar and Bailey Klug drew walks and scored runs for EL-G in the third to put them on top 2-1. Owen Kalbacken doubled to lead off the fourth and came home on Stuart Zelle’s base hit.

Klug took the loss for Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah. He started and pitched four innings – allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with three walks and one strikeout.

The Resorters had only three hits. Max Kossman and Elliot Van Oss contributed one RBI each.

Tuesday, host Grafton routed Elkhart, 21-1, in nonconference play Tuesday night. The Black Hawks banged out 17 hits, led by Will Birch and Jared Kettenhoven with three each. Kettenhoven had a team-high four RBIs.

The Resorters were held to only five hits, led by Zelle with two.
