Olig fires shutout, PHS win streak to eight

WAUWATOSA – Senior Matt Olig earned a five-hit shutout as the Plymouth Panthers downed Wauwatosa West, 4-0, in nonconference baseball action here Saturday morning at Breitlow Field.

The Panthers ran their winning streak to eight and improved to 24- 4. Olig walked only one and struck out two.

“Matt was around the [strike] zone and allowed his defense to work behind him. He mixed his pitches well and used all of the plate well,” said PHS head coach Butch Cain.

“For coming down here early on a Saturday morning, the guys executed real well.”

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Zac Cain ripped a two-out double, stole third base and scored when the catcher’s throw was errant.

PHS upped its lead to 4-0 with three runs in the sixth. With one away, Cain, Luke Held and Jake Richards strung together consecu- tive singles. Cain scored from third when the Trojans threw late to second trying to nab Held. Olig followed with a two-run single.
