Red Cross scholarships available

To make where we work, play and live safer, the American Red Cross, in partnership with the Sheboygan County United Way, is proud to announce more than $23,000 in Health & Safety training scholarships are available.

The scholarship offer covers youth and adult course registration fees and is available on first-registered bases.

Therefore, individuals and groups can register for both classroom and blended learning training for free.

Classes include adult and pediatric first aid/CPR/AED, adult and pediatric CPR/AED, adult first aid/CPR/AED, adult CPR/AED, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer and health care provider.

In addition, babysitter’s training designed for youth 11-14 years old will be held to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for infants and children up to the age of 10, as well as to manage a babysitting business.

The adults first aid/CPR/AED course has been the most popular class and the most versatile for everyday living.

Participants learn how to perform CPR and use an AED, what to do if someone is choking and how to prevent and respond to other emergencies.

How to control bleeding as well as how to care for seizures and other sudden illnesses are also covered.

The class meets OSHA standards and professional licensure requirements.

Some courses are offered in traditional classroom and blended learning formats. Blending learning is a combination of online learning and a shorter in-person skills session.

These courses include a 2-year certification with online skill refreshers and digital materials. The scholarships cover the cost for both the online and classroom portions.

“Emergencies occur every day, but with many summer outdoor activities, people are more susceptible to accidents,” said Red Cross Community Office Director Sherry Rezba. “Through this partnership, we’ve eliminated barriers to being trained, so you and your family have the skills and confidence to act in an emergency until help arrives.”

Classes are available at the Red Cross building at 2032 Erie Ave. in Sheboygan.
