Riverdogs hold on to edge Flames

The Riverdogs upped their Northern Division record to 4-13. It was the Flames’ fourth straight defeat in the division and dropped their league record to 9-8 (15-11 overall).

Plymouth tallied two runs in the top of the ninth to pull within 5-4. Dave Stecker laced an RBI double and Ryan Wachter followed with a sacrifice fly which accounted for the runs.

Jake Klemme batted next and a drew a two-out walk. Klemme stole second base and was left stranded when relief pitcher Eric Dickmyer retired the final batter on a groundout.

The Riverdogs took a 5-2 lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Ashton Holzman walked with one out and Noah Steines followed with a double to advance Holzman to third.

Mark Holzman followed with a groundout for an RBI and then P.J. Weber whacked a run-scoring single.

Adam Schmitt was the starting and winning pitcher for Howards. Schmitt allowed two earned runs on five hits with five walks, a hit batter and two strikeouts in six innings. Eric Dickmyer earned a save by recording the final three outs in the ninth.

Ryan Wachter was the losing hurler. Wachter started and went seven innings. Wachter gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits with six walks, one hit batter and two strikeouts.

Dave Stecker sparked the Flames’ offense with four hits. Matt Rhude and Joel Fabian added two each. Stecker also had a team-high two RBIs. Rhude led in runs with a pair.

Cole Reinemann keyed the Riverdogs’ 12-hit attack with three. P.J. Weber and Ryan Halverson contributed two hits apiece. Brady Callahan had a team-best two RBIs.

The teams combined for 21 runners left on base, including 12 by the Riverdogs.

FLAMES-PORT GAME

Friday night, the host Flames fell to the Port Washington Lakers, 6-3. Aaron Brockman twirled a fivehitter en route to the win. Brockman surrendered two earned runs and eight walks while striking out eight.

The Lakers improved to 9-6 in the division.

A three-run third fueled the Lakers’ win as they built a 4-0 lead. Josh Stanisch’s three-run triple was the big blow. All three runs were unearned as a result of a two-out error with no one on base.

Matt Rhude took the loss – allowing four runs (all unearned on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts in seven frames.

Fabian paced the Flames in hits with two. Dusty Medved scored a team-high two runs. Mike DuCharme and Rhude had one RBI each.

Paul Smith led the Lakers in hits with a pair. Stanisch and Nick Heiting were the RBI leaders with three and two, respectively.
