Marcella Lydia Spindler, 92, of Waldo, was called to her eternal home Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014.

Marcella was born in the town Herman on Feb. 11, 1922, to Henry and Lydia (Stock) Hameister. She attended school at Russell- Rhine Joint District No. 1.

On June 12, 1947, she and Elroy Theodore Spindler were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Evangelical & Reformed Church in the town of Russell.

Elroy and Marcella operated a farm in the town of Holland until 1951 when they purchased a farm in the town of Lima which they operated until they retired in 1985. They moved to their home in Waldo in 1994 and celebrated 53 years of marriage before Elroy preceded her in death Jan. 25, 2001.

Marcella was confirmed at St. Paul’s, after which she taught Sunday school and sang with the choir. She was a past member of Salem Plankroad UCC, where she participated in the choir for 39 years, served on various committees and was a member of the Ladies Aid.

Upon completion of her 10 years as a member of Neith 4-H Club, she became leader for the club. During her 40 years in 4-H leadership, she served as a craft project leader for Dye Road, Ourtown Orioles and Waldo Fireflies 4-H clubs as well as a County Fair superintendent and County Resource leader. Marcella was a charter member of the County 4-H Honor Society founded in 1934 and the Sheboygan County 4-H Alumni Association formed in 1991. She was a past member of the Dye Road Homemakers Club.

She enjoyed crafts of all kinds, especially tatting, crocheting and leather craft, also genealogy, birds, houseplants, gardening and recipes. Marcella’s strong faith and commitment to her Lord were evident in her loving nature and positive approach to life. Her family will always remember her spunky wit, fabulous cooking and generous heart.

Marcella is survived by her son, Allen (Joan) Spindler, Gibbsville; daughter, Darlene (Thomas) Ott, Waldo; daughters-inlaw, Jennifer Spindler, Waldo and Christine Spindler, Cleveland; grandchildren, Darrell Spindler, Jeremy (Jennifer) Spindler, Amy Spindler, Joel (Angie) Spindler, Richard (Nicole) Klemme, Philip (Kristal) Klemme, Dawn (Paul) Rousse, Tiffany Boeldt, Jarred (Krista Vandenberg) Spindler, Nicole (Todd) Spielvogel, Samantha (Charles) Beck, Angela (Robert) Eichorst, Alison (Tony) Leynse, Christian Ott, Abigail Ott, Rachel (Jeff Stanley) Behrendt, Rebecca Behrendt and Charlotte Behrendt; 27 great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Arlene Siebenaler; and also survived by many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy; her sons, Merlin and Gene; and sisters, Miriam Moehle and Beatrice Mayer.

Funeral services to celebrate Marcella’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Ebenezer United Church of Christ, 3215 Saemann Ave., Sheboygan, with the Rev. Lorri Steward officiating. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth on Friday, Aug. 29, from 4-7 p.m. and at the CHURCH on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

A memorial fund has been established in Marcella’s name for Ebenezer United Church of Christ and the Sheboygan County 4-H Endowment Fund.
