Tigers rally for win over Ozaukee in CLC opener

FREDONIA – The Howards Grove Tigers outscored host Ozaukee 3-0 in the second half to key a 4-1 boys soccer win Tuesday.

The Central Lakeshore Conference match was the season opener for both teams. The Tigers upped their overall record to 3-1-1 while the Warriors dropped to 1-1.

Ozaukee grabbed a 1-0 lead only three minutes into the game on a goal by Dakota Griffin.

HGHS tied the match, 1-1, when Ben Dehne scored off a deflection in the 11th minute. The score was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Derrick Grimm’s goal, assisted by Devin Gallenberger, 11 minutes into the second half put the Tigers ahead 2-1.

The Tigers sealed the victory on goals by Josh Eilers and Gallenberger which made it 4-1.

“This is perhaps the most physical Ozaukee team we’ve played. We weren’t expecting them to be as aggressive as they were,” said Tiger head coach Todd Fischer.

“I am very proud of how our boys maintained their composure and kept their focus on possessing the ball and scoring.”

HGHS led 12-7 in shots on goal. Tiger goalies Caleb Holzman and Hunter Voss made three and four saves, respectively.
