Plymouth American Legion post, member win state convention awards



The state American Legion convention was held in Appleton in July. The Plymouth American Legion Ladewig-Zinkgraf Post 243 was awarded the Legion’s National Award of Excellence. The post was awarded for membership growth, providing American Legion values to the youth of the community and increased visibility of the American Legion family through service projects. Gene Blindauer (center, left photo), commander of the post, accepted the award from National Commander Dan Dellinger (left) and State Commander Ken Rynes (right). Sgt. First Class Todd Richter, a member of Plymouth’s American Legion Ladewig-Zinkgraf Post 243, was recognized as enlisted National Guardsmen/Reservist of the year at the July Legion state convention in Appleton. Richter, of Sheboygan, is a member of Plymouth’s National Guard 121st F/A (HIMARS) Battery B.

The Legion awards committee based the award not only on the nominee’s military service but their commitment to their community and Legion family. Richter has had two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan and is presently attending warrant officer training at Fort Rucker, Ala. Richter was awarded the Bronze Star during one of his tours in Iraq.
