Panthers third in West Allis Central Invite

WEST ALLIS – The Plymouth Panthers earned third place in Saturday’s West Allis Central Invitational girls volleyball tournament.

PHS finished 3-2 in match play. The Panthers lost in the semifinals to Whitefish Bay, 15-21, 10-21. West Bend West defeated Whitefish Bay in the finals.

The Panthers finished 3-1 in pool play. PHS beat Milwaukee King, 21-10, 21-13; West Allis Central, 21-14, 21-11; and Madison East, 21-11, 21-11. PHS fell to West Bend West, 14-21, 11-21.

“We did very well, better than I expected,” said PHS head coach Peggy Huhn.

“This was a good match [versus Whitefish Bay] for us to see this early in the season. Bay was just at a touch higher level than what we are playing at right now.

“Playing Bay and West Bend West challenges us and makes us get better, so we can compete with them by the end of the season,” said Huhn.

“All in all, I was happy with the play I saw [in the tourney] and saw some things we will work on and get better at.”

Sophomore outside hitter Sophie Albert led PHS in kills for the tournament with 25. Senior setter Mary Albert had a team-high 41 assists.

Senior Cara Bardon paced the Panthers in digs with 10, followed by Mary Albert and junior Elizabeth Baus with seven apiece. Sophie Albert and Mary Albert led in ace serves with five each.
