Tigers earn third in Mukwonago Invite

MUKWONAGO – The Howards Grove Tigers placed third in the gold bracket at Saturday’s Mukwonago Invitational girls volleyball tournament.

HGHS finished second in its pool which included four Division 1 schools (the Tigers are in D-3). Menomonee Falls, the defending D-1 state champions, won the tourney and the Tigers’ pool.

“It’s a great feeling that we can compete with some of the best teams in the state. We will continue to grow as individuals and as a team,” said Tiger head coach Brett Damrow whose team finished 3-2 in the tourney and is 9-2 overall.

The Tigers lost to Mukwonago in the semifinals, 23-25, 26-24, 5-15. In the third-place match, HGHS defeated Shoreland Lutheran (Somers) 25-14, 25-11.

HGHS was 2-1 in its pool – owning wins over Oconomowoc, 24-26, 25-15, 15-7; and Waukesha North, 25-8, 25-14. The Tigers lost to Menomonee Falls, 25-27, 25-22, 7-15.

Ali Schueler led the Tigers in kills for the tourney with 58 and was second in digs with 60. Lyndsay Peterson and Samantha Black contributed 21 and 19 kills, respectively.

Brittany Schaller had a teamhigh 78 digs for HGHS and Autumn Risch had 48. Risch paced HGHS in assists with 117. Samantha Yancy led in blocks with eight.
