Fairview families visit Farmers Market

Jessica Mella, Plymouth School District nutrition and wellness coordinator, prepares a salad for Fairview families to enjoy after visiting the Plymouth Farmers Market. Plymouth School District Community Education and Recreation and families from Fairview Elementary School visited the Plymouth Farmers Market together several times this summer. Students enjoyed a scavenger hunt each time and made a salad, homemade veggie dip, balsamic vinaigrette dressing and homemade salsa, along with taste-testing lots of new veggies. Students tried kohlrabi, eggplant, yellow squash and many herbs, including sweet basil, Thai basil, mint and cilantro. Vendors offered the children veggies to taste and smell. The group also explored the gardens at Generations, and were excited to find many pumpkins and tomatoes growing there. The farmers market is open from noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays through October at Generations, 1500 Douglas Drive, Plymouth.
