Elkhart leads the South with a 3-0 record and improved to 5-0 overall. The Resorters exploded for 49 points in the first quarter against a young, outmanned Big Red squad.

The Resorters did all of their offensive damage on the ground – amassing 322 yards. The attack was spearheaded by sophomore running back Dyllan Konen who ran for a career-high 134 yards. Konen also scored three touchdowns.

Elkhart’s defense scored three TDs on Owen Kalbacken’s 20-yard fumble return, Gunnr Johnson’s 26-yard interception run-back and Logan Knepfel’s 45-yard interception return. Wayland (0-3 in division, 0-5 overall) had minus-37 yards rushing and zero passing.

“Overall, I was very pleased with the team – defensively and offensively. Our younger guys got a lot of experience in the game,” said Resorter head coach Barry Feldmann.

“Everyone did their job, especially on defense. We did a great job of blocking up front and Brock Bonebrake blocked real well at fullback.

“Our experience, size and speed were big factors. They’re rebuilding this year. They lost about three-fourths of their team from last season when they were 8-3,” said Feldmann.
