Panthers roll, stay one game back in EWC race

Plymouth’s Jesus Guzman closes in. – Photo by Kristin Strehlow SHEBOYGAN FALLS – The Plymouth Panthers, led by Zach Gambrell’s hat trick, walloped Sheboygan Falls, 6-0, in Eastern Wisconsin Conference boys soccer action here Monday afternoon.

PHS upped its EWC mark to 7-1 (10-5 overall) and remained in second place, one game behind firstplace New Holstein/Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah which is 8-0. It was Plymouth’s sixth shutout in league play.

PHS will host NH/EL-G in a rematch Thursday, Sept. 25 at 4:30 p.m. The Huskies edged the Panthers, 2-1, on Sept. 2.

The Falcons fell to 4-4 in the EWC (6-8 overall).

“We played well today. We created many opportunities to score and we finished,” said Panther head coach Rommy Herrera.

Gambrell’s first two goals gave PHS a 2-0 lead in the first half. The senior forward added a third goal on a penalty kick in the second half which capped off the Panthers’ scoring barrage.

Junior forward Noah Joseph kicked two goals and senior midfielder Antonio Cambise had one. Cambise, Collin Meyer, Aidan Woida and Jacob Welsch contributed one assist each.

PHS dominated the shots on goal at 13-1. Panther goalie Drew Schweiger had one save. Falcon goalkeeper Lee Huberty made four.
