Panthers sweep New Holstein in EWC match

NEW HOLSTEIN – The Plymouth girls volleyball squad played a strong match as it swept the New Holstein Huskies, 25-17, 25-23, 25-23, in Eastern Wisconsin Conference action here Thursday night.

The hard-earned victory pushed the Panthers’ EWC dual mark to 4-3.

“It was a very nice win for us tonight. We came out with a lot of energy and a lot of communication,” said PHS head coach Peggy Huhn.

“We had made some changes over the week throughout practice and the girls were able to take that onto the court.”

Sophie Albert fueled the Panthers’ attack with 17 kills and Megan Goeser had nine. Kathryn Aukerman had a team-high six ace serves.

Goeser led her team in solo blocks with three. Elizabeth Baus led in digs at four. Mary Albert was first in assists with 23.

Hailee Olson paced the Huskies in kills with five. Karissa Preston and Taylor Doherty led in digs with 16 each.

“Mary Albert stayed very offensive for us in the setter’s position – attacking on second ball and keeping their defense honest,” said Huhn.

“I felt we did a good job in attack selection and were able to use good ball handling to place the ball around their defense.

Elise Suttner and Elizabeth Baus both had very nice play in our back row. They are reading hitters much better lately and really picking up a lot for us,” added the coach.
