Puberty classes

To the Editor,

The Sheboygan County Aging and Disability Resource Center, in conjunction with Aurora Health Care of Sheboygan County, and Hearthstone of Sheboygan is offering a first of its kind opportunity here in the county: Puberty Workshops for young adolescents with developmental disabilities.

On Saturday, October 11, 2014, these agencies are pro- viding two educational opportunities, one for girls aged 10 to 14 and one for boys aged 11 to 14 who have Developmental or Cognitive Disabilities and their parent or other significant adult.

These workshops are designed for a parent and child to learn together in a comfortable, safe, and fun environment.

Videos, slides, pictures, games and activities are used to improve comprehension, and to help parents become more comfortable and confident helping their children understand self care, appropriate social behavior and body changes.

These workshops are presented by Terri Couwenhoven, M.S. an ASSECT certified sexuality educator who specializes in developing programs and resources for people who have cognitive disabilities.

Terri is also the Clinic Coordinator for The Down Syndrome Clinic at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and is the parent of a daughter with Down Syndrome.

The session for girls will be held from 9:00 to 11:30 am on October 11th, and the session for boys will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. also on October 11th at the Sheboygan County Aging and Disability Resource Center located at 650 Forest Avenue in Sheboygan Falls.

Registration is required by October 9, and seating is limited .

To register, please contact SueAnn Schuh c/o Hearthstone of Sheboygan at 920 458-1192 or via email at saschuh@excel.net.

This is a great opportunity that is being offered locally for local families. We hope to see you there.
