Heinig, Shovan lead EL-G at Slinger Invite

SLINGER – Erica Heinig and Sydney Shovan posted personalbest times to lead the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah girls cross country team at Thursday’s Slinger Invitational Division 2 meet.

Heinig, a junior, was clocked in 26 minutes, 6 seconds on the 3.1-mile course en route to a 57thplace finish out of 81 runners. Shovan, sophomore, finished 67th in 27:32. Both competitors had the top-two finishes for the Resorters.

Watertown Luther Prep won the meet with 90 points. Sheboygan Falls took fourth at 112 and Elkhart was 12th (last) with 349. The Resorters were without their top runner in sophomore Jessica Mehre.

Lauren Louko paced Falls with a fourth-place effort in 21:08. The winner was Adrianna Lubner of Washington County Home School Athletics in 19:57.

Caterson Schamberger paced the Elkhart boys with a 40th-place finish in 20:17 over 3.1 miles. David Gremminger was Falls’ top runner at sixth in 18:16. Joshua Brands of Luther Prep took first in 17:07.

Luther Prep was the champion with 50 points. Falls earned sixth at 151 in the 11-team meet. Elkhart had an incomplete squad.
