The division crown is the first for the Resorters in their three seasons of eight-man football. Elkhart finished 6-0 in the South and upped their overall record to 8-0.

The Warriors, who needed a win to have a shot at sharing the title with EL-G, dropped to 3-2 in the division (5-3 overall). Abundant Life Christian (Madison) is second in the division at 4-1, followed by Valley Christian.

“I’m extremely proud of the guys. One of our goals was to win the division,” said Resorter head coach Barry Feldmann. “The guys went out and played probably their best game of the year.”

Sophomore tailback Jared Shaw continued his outstanding season for the Resorters. Shaw rushed for a game-high 189 yards on only eight carries and scored two touchdowns on 45- and 95-yard scampers in the first quarter which gave his team a 14-0 lead.

“Jared is explosive and does a great job but doesn’t get this done without blocking,” said Feldmann.

Feldmann thought the offensive line, fullback Brock Bonebrake and tailback Trevor Rebedew blocked very well.

Rebedew also had a big night on offense. He had two TD runs and a 75-yard kickoff return for a score. Bonebrake returned a kickoff 60 yards for a TD.

Elkhart senior quarterback Elliot Van Oss threw a 24-yard TD pass to wide receiver Gunnr Johnson and ran for a score.

The Resorters racked up 275 yards on the ground. The Elkhart defense played a strong game – holding an explosive Warrior offense to only 107 yards rushing on 30 carries (3.6 average per attempt) and 126 yards passing.

Feldmann said a big key for the defense was the job it did against standout senior quarterback Ryan Van Maanen. Van Maanen came into the game with 1,078 yards and 13 TDs rushing but was held to only 70 yards on 24 carries by Elkhart.

“We played awesome defense. They have one of the best quarterbacks in the conference. He is very elusive and we did a great job of containing him,” said the coach. “Our kids played their positions and executed very well on defense. We had a very good team effort on defense.”

Elkhart’s defense forced two turnovers. Johnson and Shaw had one interception each at linebacker and defensive back, respectively.
