Tigers unbeaten in Pink-Out Tourney

HOWARDS GROVE – The Howards Grove Tigers finished 2-0 with sweeps in the Pink-Out Girls Volleyball Tournament here Saturday.

The event was a fund-raiser to support the fight against breast cancer. Raffles, a silent auction and T-shirt sales were held, with proceeds benefiting the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund.

The Tigers defeated St. Mary Central (Neenah), 25-7, 25-15, 25- 22; and Denmark, 25-14, 25-13, 25-12.

HGHS had the best record in the four-team meet in which a champion wasn’t decided. Denmark was 2-1, followed by Random Lake, 1-1, and St. Mary Centreal, 0-3. Random Lake didn’t play HGHS due to the Rams’ Homecoming events.

“It was a great day. I was proud of our team the way they responded after the loss to Oostburg [on Oct. 9]. We went 6-0 in sets and 2-0 in matches against great competition,” said Tiger head coach.

“Thank-you to everyone who came out to support this event and for all of those who helped make it possible. It was a great event for a great cause.”

Samantha Black led HGHS in kills for the tourney with 18 and Autumn Risch had 15. Risch had a team-high 53 assists. Brittany Schaller led in digs with 38 and Ali Schueler had 34.
