Laning

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in support of the most remarkable woman I know, Martha Laning.

Martha first came to my attention when she gave a presentation to the ADRC (Aging & Disability Resource Center) Governing Committee about her plans to hire an onsite chef for the Senior Meal Site and Head Start in Plymouth.

The result was that the cost of the food served went down and the quality went up. Plymouth now has the highest voluntary meal contribution rate in the county.

As a volunteer receptionist at the Plymouth Intergenerational Center (Generations), I was able to observe Martha on a regular basis and got to know her as a real “Energizer Bunny”.

She was constantly multitasking between the five agencies sharing the building and the multitude of workmen and visitors that came into the building.

When Plymouth needed a new manager for their Senior Center, Martha took over those duties and expanded the program in the process. Not once did I ever observe Martha lose her smile or get overwhelmed by what was going on.

Martha’s exceptional management and personal skills were not only evident in the way she managed the employees and volunteers of the Intergenerational Center; she also had two governing boards to answer to as well. She also raised the $4 million to build the Generations Building and it is now completely paid for.

Martha is exactly the type of person we need to represent us in Madison. She knows how to budget money wisely while not forgetting that people are af- fected by budget policies.

She knows how to read and manage budgets and find savings which she did as an auditor at the Target Corp.

Most of all we need someone who knows how to bring people together to get things done, someone who is not a politician, yet knows public policy and will act in the best interest of her constituents and not just follow the “party” line.

Martha is just the person we need.
