Resorters’ defense key in Jamboree

ELKHART LAKE — Defense will be crucial for the unbeaten Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters when they tackle the Luck Cardinals in the Eight-Player Football Jamboree Saturday.

“They’re big, and they are effective running the ball and have good blockers. They’re a good all-round team,” said Resorter head coach Barry Feldmann.

“We have to play our best defensive game of the year. They’re tricky running the ball and hide the ball well in the backfield. We have to control our gaps on defense.”

The game will kick off at 4 p.m. at D.C. Everest High School’s Stiehm Stadium in Schofield. Elkhart comes into the contest with a 9-0 record and the Cardinals are 7-2. The Resorters won the Great 8 Conference’s South Division and Luck placed second in the Lakeland Conference.

“They have a little bit of a size advantage. Athletically and quickness wise, I think we’re a little better,” observed Feldmann. “We match up well. We’ll have to play our best game.”

The Cardinals’ strong ground game is led by junior running back Chris Pouliot with 918 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Elkhart also features an outstanding running attack, spearheaded by sophomore tailback Jared Shaw with 915 yards and 16 TDs, and senior quarterback Elliot Van Oss, 711 yards and 13 TDs.

“I think we’ll move the ball well on them. I’m confident we’ll do well [overall]. It will be a good football game,” Feldmann said.
