The game was the Central Lakeshore Conference opener for both teams. The Resorters evened their overall record at 1-1 as they bounced back from a 65-32 loss to Laconia Tuesday night. Friday’s contest was Ozaukee’s season debut.

Sophomore point guard Sonia Schubert had a double-double and sophomore guard/forward Camrie Schmitz came off the bench and netted a career-high 12 points for Elkhart. Schubert tallied 13 points and pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds.

“It was nice to get that first win but we need to keep working hard and build on that win,” said Resorter head coach Donny Kulow.

“Both teams played hard and we just could not pull away. Both teams made runs.

“I give my girls credit. Every time Ozaukee made a run we hit a big shot or had a steal to turn momentum in our favor. We played much better than our game versus Laconia,” Kulow said.

Elkhart outscored the Warriors 17-8 in the second quarter to take a 31-23 halftime lead. The Resorters led the entire second half. Schmitz ignited EL-G’s attack in the second period with eight points, followed by Ausloos who had six on a pair of three-point goals.

Ausloos hit a key basket and Schubert made two clutch free throws down the stretch which helped seal the win.

Schmitz, Claire Feldmann and Schubert paced Elkhart in assists with two each. Schmitz had a team-high four steals and Schubert made three.

Schubert and Emma Feldmann led the Resorters in blocked shots with two apiece. Rachael Flora contributed seven rebounds.

“Mariah played real aggressive and hit 3 of 4 from behind the [three-point] arc,” said Kulow.

Kulow thought Schmitz played solid defense.

“It was nice to see girls step up at different times,” he said.

EL-G was an excellent 6-for- 11 (55 percent) from three-point range. The Resorters overcame 30 turnovers.

Jessika Dieringer led the Warriors’ attack with 18 points.
