ELROY LINCOLN MILLER

Elroy Lincoln Miller, 82, of Sheboygan passed away Tuesday afternoon Nov.18, 2014, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, where he spent his final few peaceful days surrounded by his loved ones.

Elroy was born Feb. 12, 1932 in Batavia to the late Franklin and Esther (Bartelt) Miller. Elroy attended elementary school in Batavia and was a graduate of Plymouth High School in 1950.

On Aug. 31, 1957 he was united in marriage to his wife of 57 years Marilyn (Guthmiller).

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sgt. and air traffic controller based in Buloxi Miss. Elroy was a member, and former officer of American Legion Post #83.

After his military service, Elroy graduated from Lakeland College with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. Elroy earned his Master’s Degree from Marquette University in 1966. Elroy also attended South Dakota State College, University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, and University of New Hampshire.

Elroy was an educator in the Sheboygan Area School District teaching at Central High School from 1958-1960, Farnsworth from 1960-1969, Horace Mann from the first day it opened in 1969 until his retirement in 1991. He was the play director there for many years. Elroy enjoyed his years working part time at Habermann Funeral Home, where he was able to use his caring personality to help families in there time of need.

He was a member of Fountain Park Methodist Church, and a long-time member of the choir, as well as other committees. Elroy was a Project Leader for the Four-Leaf Clovers 4-H Club and was especially active in conservation activities such as planting trees, tapping maple trees in the spring and raising pheasants on the Miller homestead in Batavia.

Elroy was involved in his families lives, he enjoyed coaching his son Ken’s little league baseball team and setting aside time to be with his grandchildren every week, attending many concerts, games and perfor- mances. In Elroy’s retirement he enjoyed crafting and doing daily crossword puzzles. He also worked very hard to maintain family tree documentation for the Miller and Bartelt families, and created a computerized version to preserve it for generations to come.

Survivors include his loving wife Marilyn; children Karen (Verne) Heidenreiter of Sheboygan Falls, Karl (Joan) Miller, Ken (Tammy) Miller both of Sheboygan; seven grandchildren Branden (Jessica) Bacon, Heather Bacon, Evan (Stef) Miller, Kaitlyn, Courtney, Sarah and Matthew Miller; two step grandchildren Crystal (Andrew) Bruggink and Victoria (Robert) Gardner; one great-grandchild Oliver Miller, four step great-grandchildren Kiara, Wyatt, Kayden and MaKayla.

Elroy was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Orville, Deward and Allan and a sister Joyce Krieman.

Family and friends may call at the Fountain Park United Methodist Church, 828 Erie Ave., Sheboygan on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, from 9-11 a.m. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014 at the church with Rev. Warren Waddell officiating. Military honors will be accorded following the service by VFW Post #9156. Burial will take place in the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Batavia.

A memorial fund has been established in Elroy’s name for Fountain Park United Methodist Church.
