Falcons edge Denmark, Chilton

DENMARK - Sheboygan Falls High School freshman J.T. Petrie made two free throws in the final minute to lift the Falcons to a 68-65 victory over Denmark in a non-conference boys basketball matchup Saturday, Nov. 29.

The Falcons improved to 2-0 overall to start the season, while Denmark fell to 0-2 overall.

Falls sophomore Ross Krist continued his hot start with 24 points, including eight points in the fourth quarter, to lead the offensive charge for the Falcons.

Falls junior Austin Madden hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter to help Falls close the lead to 34-32 at halftime.

Falls then pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 20-13.

Blake Derricks and Tanner Umentum scored 16 points each to lead Denmark. Both players had four 3-pointers for the Vikings.

Three Falcons, Krist, senior Jacob Brading and Petrie, had four rebounds, while Krist added three steals for the victorious Falls squad.

Falls pounded non-conference foe Chilton 69-51 in its 2014- 15 season opener Tuesday, Nov. 25, in Sheboygan Falls, as Krist scored a career-high 26 points in his varsity debut.

Krist made three 3-point shots and had three steals. Junior Ryan Schmitt added 16 points with one 3-pointer, while Petrie scored 11 points and collected five boards.

The Falcons trailed 16-9 early, before Krist scored 13 points in the second quarter to push Falls to a 30-28 lead.

Schmitt dropped in 13 points in the third quarter, as the Falcons outscored the Tigers 25-14 to pull out to a 55-42 lead.

“Our team has played well in its first two games,” said Falcons’

Jake Frohling. “We were down in the first quarter in both games and came back to win. Krist and Petrie have been solid in the first two games.”

Greuel led Chilton with 24 points.
