Tigers’ Risch, Schueler earn all-state honors

Senior setter Autumn Risch and senior outside hitter Ali Schueler of Howards Grove were named Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association all-state honorable mention for the 2014 girls volleyball season.

Risch and Schueler were All- Central Lakeshore Conference first-team picks this past season – Risch for the third straight year and Schueler the second. Both players helped spark the Tigers to the Divi sion

3 state tournament last month.

Risch had an outstanding 1,076 assists for the overall season. She also contributed 205 kills, 94.8-percent serving accuracy, 12 solo blocks, 61 ace serves and 316 digs.

Schueler was a crucial hitter for the Tigers’ attack with a team-high 312 kills. She had six solo blocks, 450 digs, 24 aces and 88.4-percent serving.

“Unique athletic ability is what really carries Ali on the court and her off-season technical training. She is an under-sized outside [hitter, 5-feet-8] who makes the most of her athletic ability,” said Tiger head coach Damrow.

“The dedication in the off- season is really what helped Autumn achieve her goals. She is a student of the game. She really understands what I want out of my offense,” said Damrow.

Sophomore Brittany Schaller of HGHS was selected to the D-3 all-state tournament team. Schaller, libero (back-row specialist) had an impressive defensive match in the Tigers’ state semifinal loss to eventual champion Waterloo as she made a team-high 30 digs. Schaller was an All-CLC first-team choice this year.

Senior libero Brooke Birschbach of Campbellsport is all-state honorable mention.
