Horse farm

To the Editor,

After more than 30 years of running a very successful equine therapy program for people with disabilities, Reins, Inc. Equine Assisted Activities and Therapy Program is facing a struggle that requires help from the community.

Reins needs a farm to run our summer therapeutic horseback riding program starting this next summer and possibly for the next 3 years. We are very fortunate to have financial supporters, a broad base of committed volunteers, and an expanding base of riders. We are in the process of building a capital plan to build a permanent facility, but we need an interim host site.

We are PATH Premier certified and our instructors are PATH certifi ed also. We have tremendous insurance that covers everything. Our horses are generously donated to us for the season. We maintain their care and condition them as needed. Lease agreements for horses and facility are individually designed to meet owner requirements.

Children and adults ages 4 to 94 are looking forward to another riding season with Reins. If Reins does not locate a facility to lease by January 15th, 2015, we will be forced to suspend our program for the 2015 season. Our fabulous program has been in operation for over 32 years. We need to stay alive for the sake of our very SPECIAL clients. We need to find a place to continue offering these unique and effective therapies, but we can’t do it without your support. If you have an equine facility that is currently unused or underused, we would love to talk to you.

We always have room on our Board of Directors for people that are dedicated to our mission and who are hard working. We love to have fun and our horses and clients complete the experience.
