The Elves in the windows

For decades Downtown Plymouth has been a favorite place to shop, dine and socialize. 2014 has also brought a new group to the downtown as the three Elementary schools’ second-, third- and fourth-grade art students created displays of Elves. Over 1,000 Elves fill the windows in locations on Mill Street with personal messages from the students that can melt your heart and put a smile on your face.

Horizon Elementary has a display at 411 E. Mill St., Parkview Elementary is at 215 E. Mill St. in Dreams Unlimited and Fairview Elementary filled the windows at 207 E. Mill St. The Elves come in all sizes from 4 inches to 3 feet with unique attire and touching messages. Plymouth Elementary Art teacher Field Lehmann said, “The kids really enjoyed creating something that they could share with the city and now they have been looking at the windows with their parents, viewing for their elves. This was an opportunity for the students to learn community involvement and pride, and we hope to do more.”

The window displays are part of the Downtown Plymouth Holiday Celebration that goes on until Christmas. Stores throughout Downtown have their windows decorated for the season and the competition for best windows in the city. Shoppers can go into stores and vote for their favorite windows by dropping $1 in the voting boxes in each location. Proceeds from the votes go to the Plymouth Area Food Pantry.
